On January 23rd, I finally got to visit Japan for the first time! WOO-HOO!
... but after nearly 30 hours of flight, I wasn't nearly as excited as I thought I would be. I was still walking and talking so I guess that's how I knew I wasn't asleep. But boy was I tired.
To prove it, here's the very first picture I took of Japan.
The sloppiest picture ever. I don't know how it happened. Everything in it is terrible. The coffee that came out of it was awful, too. Worst coffee I ever had. But I was so excited, what did I care.
My boyfriend's much-better version of my pic. Also, look, it's my 30-hour-jetlag face! :D
After an hour or so in the "Airport Limousine Bus" (which is, erm, all bus and no limousine, but hey, it was comfy and nice enough), we got to a moonlit Tokyo.
And then, a picture of the hotel, Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku. also the worst picture ever, part deux.
However bad the photo, this hotel was perfect. Just what we were looking for. I cannot stress how surprised I was when we arrived and I analyzed the location we were in. It's in the middle of busy Shinjuku, with skyscrapers everywhere and the HUMONGOUS Shinjuku Est just a block away.
Perfect for me, everything I was looking for. I love big cities and I love tall buildings. So, yayyy! Awesome. The room had everything we needed, too. Not a lot, but then again you don't need much. Vending machines just outside the bedrooms are a big plus! You can get a yummy hot coffee there every morning.
I recommend:
Best coffee ever. Much better than the airport coffee-like juice, at least. LOL just kidding. It was really, seriously very good.
The first day, we went to Shibuya and Harajuku. And it had snowed overnight, so we were very, extremely cold. We were there so early, nothing was open! Hahaha. A 12-hour timezone difference suddenly made us earlybirds.
Shibuya109 is a majestic building of wonder. Just take the Yamanote Line to Shibuya estation, then go to the Hachiko Exit. Reach the statue, and you will think "Oh, it's actually really small".
But walk past it...
... and to your left you will find a towering 9-something-story building with a cylindrical design that reads Shibuya109 in red (not pictured in photo. Actually I took no pictures of the exterior of it at all... FAIL). If you are like me and you enjoy fashion, enter it!
Unfortunately no photos allowed of the shops :( but that doesn't mean I never took any, lol. Just not on the first day. I was still feeling shy XD
Actually I lied. I did take a picture of "Ciara" (something) in 109. I'm sorry Japan D: I'm sorry for taking pictures when it's not allowed, lol
Uhm this is awkward. I actually ALSO took a short, pointless video. Seems I'm much worse of a person than I think I am, heheheh.
Random picture of BIC Camera, which my boyfriend wanted to visit:
Eeek. Fear of heights, much? And it's only two floors down!
The good thing about this place was (aside from awesome electronics), the catchy store tune. You will not be able to get it out of your head. You have been warned.
After having lunch in Shibuya, off to Harajuku we went!
My first purikura! Am I as cute as the picture?
Obligatory Harajuku pic:
You can see I had bought some stuff already... hehehe
Entrance to a mori-style shop in Takeshita Doori.
Stealth pic @ Takeshita st. THE DAISO. I actually got noticed this time :( and politely asked not to take anymore pictures lol
That day Harajuku's Laforet (a big shopping mall with the best brands ever, such as Angelic Pretty, Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Metamorphose, Swimmer, etc) was having a super mega outlet fair-sale thingy. I had never seen so many people inside the same building in my entire life.
Luckily I got some Angelic Pretty things, so I went back home victorious.
I do not have shopping issues, shut up.
That concludes my first day in Japan. All in all, we got just a little wet because of the rain... skies did not cooperate with us at all. But I can't complain, as the rest of the trip had perfect weather!
I hope you enjoyed my picspammy first entry. I am not very articulate at all in these kind of posts. I am sorry.
NOTE: I will be posting pictures of my culinary trip also. But because that is exactly 15 days worth of lunches, dinners and afternoon snacks, it will occupy its own post. Soon :)
