I want to talk about my lunch today! After finishing my class in college and getting some study-related things done, I went to lunch (all by myself... insert FOREVER ALONE here) to Green Eat. It is a health-oriented eatery that offers fresh, yummy foods like sushi, ceviche, cheesecakes, fruit slushies, salads and bread. The basic proposition for this place is that things are made daily, as they are supposed to be. Everything is cut and served fresh.
Personally, I think it's an interesting concept. But it does sound like a marketing gimmick. How can you tell it's fresh, huh? McDonald's also says they are fresh yet you know how bad that food is.
I cannot convince you with pictures, perhaps. But I will urge you to taste Green Eat's food. It is seriously THE BEST FOOD EVER. I cannot express how amazed I was when I first tried their sushi, a while ago. It was that sushiman-just-made-it taste combined with the convenience of not having to wait for the sushiman to make it. And also, the cost. While it is not the cheapest option out there, eight pieces of sushi plus salad have the same cost (in Argentine pesos) as a McDonald's meal (wow, not even I knew I disliked McD's so much! haha). I MEAN WHAT? If there is a food choice you have to make and one of the options is sushi, THERE IS NO CHOICE. Eat sushi dammit!
The new variations of sushi they included are amazing, too. You get two salmon+philadelphia cheese+avocado rolls, two cucumber+avocado+lightly smoked salmon rolls, two pineapple+salmon+cheese rolls, and two mushroom+ciboulette+salmon rolls. It's a nice variety. The pineapple ones were my favorites, because the sweetness of the fruit really contrasts with the soy sauce. It's cheap sushi heaven.
I won't lie to you and say that I never tasted better sushi, because I have. But Green Eat's is good enough to go head-to-head with the sushi I have tasted, and put up quite a fight. The salmon chunks in it are so chewy and big! Uncommon for sushi, which is usually made with the smallest piece of salmon the chef could cut.
The salad on the side is yummy, too. It has soy sprouts, pumpkin, cherry tomatoes and lettuce, and also comes with a oily vinagrette to put in it. Every element of the food is properly placed in a lovely, colorful box, which looks as though a lunch box in which your mom has arranged the food in. That's how it feels to taste the food. As if it was made with love. I think it must be. That's the secret. When a chef cooks and prepares plates with pleasure, you can feel it.
I am sounding like a food poet here. I guess I really do love food. But wait, here is the best part --
This is Maracuja Cheesecake. In other words, passionfruit. This is SO good, you guys. They even leave the little seeds on it, and you can REALLY taste the fruit. It has a perfect sweet beginning and a sour aftertaste, kind of like kiwi. But, it is sweeter than kiwi. The crust below the cheesecake if perfect, and so is the creamy cheese. They sell it in individual and big portions, as they do with the rest of their cakes. I got an individual one but could barely finish it after all that sushi, haha. No worries, though. I ate it all.
"Rainy days..." "... are always better after a slice of cake!" - picture of the package the cake came in. LOL, you tell it how it is, birdies.
The place itself is also very nice. Like a little bit of New York Soho in Buenos Aires. It is aimed to health-conscious office workers, but I think everyone would like it. It has three floors and a lot of open, well-lit spaces.
Street view from the second floor.
"Yes, in here, I look just like the picture! So yummy!", hahahaha talking sandwich.
There is so much light in there, it is actually hard to take pictures! The irony.
By the time I usually get there it is not so stocked, because Argentinians are late lunchers (usually having lunch at past 1.30 PM). They stock their open fridges as soon as they get the food ready, so you can always tell it's super fresh and made daily. They also stock random market things such as flowers, self-made honey, ground coffee and cereal so you can take home. Unfortunately I cannot pack the sushi home, because it would heat up. I wish I could eat it everyday!
If you are ever in Buenos Aires and would like to try them, they have two locations: Reconquista 690 and Uruguay 703. The two shops are close by.
And no, I am not paid by them to do this. I actually wrote this review from the bottom of my heart because I love their food! :3
